The old saying goes on “it’s a small planet.” It certainly is in terms of the accessibility to information across the globe as well as the ability to connect with business leaders and other important decision makers from every corner of the globe. This is especially evident in global business. Global business is a term that refers to any company or business that conducts business outside of the country in which it is headquartered.
As the world’s commerce and trade become more complex, businesses both small and large must take steps to ensure that they are equipped to navigate these new challenges. This means knowing the nuances and politics of international business, as well as knowing how to collaborate with colleagues and partners in countries with different cultures from their own.
The undergraduate Journal of Global Business and Trade (JGBT) includes research papers, reports, and commentaries that pertain to the world of global business. It’s also an official publication of the Consortium for Undergraduate International Business Education (CUIBE).
It’s crucial to know how cultural differences can affect the success of your company abroad, whether you’re a business owner who is thinking of entering international markets, or want to ensure that your team is well-prepared. This means understanding the customs, holidays, beliefs and social norms of diverse cultures you may encounter in your international business endeavors. It’s the best way to increase your “export IQ.” It’s also useful to be able to communicate with business associates from other countries. For example various cultures have different expectations of personal space and greetings.
